1. Practice with respect

EpiLingo’s mission is to help people improve real-world language skills. Be respectful, act safely, and use the Services in ways that support learning rather than harm, exploitation, or deception.

We may use automated systems and human review to investigate suspected violations. Depending on severity, context, and history, we may block a request, remove content, limit a feature, warn a user, suspend or terminate an account, preserve relevant evidence, or report conduct to appropriate authorities. Immediate and severe harm may result in action without prior warning.

2. Follow the law

Do not use EpiLingo to plan, facilitate, promote, praise, or conceal illegal activity, including:

  • terrorism, violent extremism, human trafficking, or exploitation;
  • the unlawful sale, acquisition, or use of weapons, drugs, or controlled substances;
  • violence against people or animals, kidnapping, sexual violence, or domestic abuse;
  • theft, fraud, scams, vandalism, cybercrime, or evasion of law enforcement.

Educational discussion about a sensitive topic may be allowed when it does not meaningfully enable harm.

3. Safety of minors

Never create, request, upload, or share content that sexually exploits, abuses, grooms, endangers, or otherwise harms a minor. This includes sexualized depictions, instructions that facilitate abuse, and attempts to obtain private or intimate material from a minor.

We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material. We may remove related content and accounts and report apparent exploitation to relevant authorities or legally designated organizations.

4. Content safety

Do not use the Services to create or transmit:

  • pornographic content, non-consensual intimate material, or sexual exploitation;
  • graphic gore, torture, or violence intended primarily to shock, celebrate, or encourage harm;
  • credible threats, instructions to injure someone, or content that facilitates abuse;
  • malware, credential theft, destructive code, or instructions to compromise systems or accounts.

5. Misinformation and harmful high-impact content

Do not use EpiLingo to deliberately create or spread false or misleading claims that are likely to cause serious harm. This includes dangerous health claims, fabricated emergency information, deceptive election instructions, fraud, impersonation, or coordinated manipulation.

Do not use AI output to make decisions in high-impact areas such as medical treatment, legal rights, employment, housing, credit, insurance, immigration, education admissions, or law enforcement. EpiLingo is a language-learning service and its output is not professional advice.

6. Harassment and hateful conduct

Do not harass, stalk, threaten, shame, sexually objectify, or coordinate abuse against another person. Do not publish degrading content about a private person or encourage others to target them.

We prohibit content that attacks, dehumanizes, threatens, or promotes discrimination or violence based on race, ethnicity, nationality, caste, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, serious medical condition, immigration status, or another protected characteristic.

7. Self-harm

Do not encourage, glorify, instruct, or pressure someone to engage in suicide, self-injury, disordered eating, or another form of self-harm. Do not use threats of self-harm to manipulate or coerce others.

Supportive, recovery-focused conversation may be allowed, but EpiLingo is not a crisis service. If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or a qualified crisis resource.

8. Privacy and personal information

Do not share, request, infer, or expose another person’s private or sensitive information without a lawful basis and permission. This includes passwords, authentication codes, government identifiers, financial details, private addresses, medical records, intimate images, and precise location.

Obtain permission before recording or submitting another person’s voice, image, messages, or personal story. Do not impersonate someone or use their identity to deceive or harm others.

9. Intellectual property, fraud, and service integrity

Respect copyrights, trademarks, publicity rights, and other legal rights. Submit only content you own or have permission to use. Do not use EpiLingo to counterfeit, plagiarize, defraud, misrepresent AI output as verified human work, or violate another platform’s rules.

Do not probe, scrape, overload, reverse engineer, bypass safeguards, automate abusive access, distribute malware, or interfere with EpiLingo or its providers. Responsible security reports should be sent privately.

10. Reporting and updates

To report content, conduct, or a security concern, email [email protected]. Include a clear description and any relevant account or session details, but do not send passwords or unnecessary sensitive information.

We may update these Guidelines as the Services and risks evolve. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date and, where appropriate, additional notice. Thank you for helping keep EpiLingo safe.
